Rome Wasn't Built in a Day Tour Description

Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day but for those of us with limited time or for those of us looking for the one day overview of Rome, then this Rome Highlights Tour is for you.

The tour starts with our pre-booked skip the line entrance to the Vatican Museum the largest collection of Roman Antiquities in the world and one of the greatest contributions to all of Western Art the Sistine Chapel . There you will experience the great renaissance masters Raphael and Michelangelo. After the museum we will skip the long security line to visit the breathtaking Saint Peters Basilica.

Following you will cross the Bridge of the Angel to Piazza Navona once an ancient stadium transformed into a baroque square, and then wander over to the most glorious feet of architecture in all the world the Pantheon. You’ll read the history on the Column of Marcus Aurelius a delight for historians and the inspiration to the opening of the movie “Gladiator.”

Enjoy the fresh produce and smell of Italian spices in the Roman market at Campo Dei Fiori there you will break for lunch or get in some gift shopping in some of Rome’s best boutiques.

You will listen to the verses written by romantics poet John Keats as he took his inspiration seated upon the Spanish steps and you will toss your coins into the world renowned Trevi Fountain.

Then you will take a walk back in time as you tour the Roman Forum and see the political and social center of what would rule from Portugal to Iran, from Britain to all the north of Africa. There you will learn about a death far more tragic than the death recounted by William Shakespeare’s “Tragedy of Julius Caesar” the death of the Great Roman Republic.

Finally hear the roar of the crowd as your English speaking guide transports you back in time to the blood of the arena. Learn of the gladiators whom risked brutal death in pursuit of glory in the Coliseum.

"Incredible Touring Experience!"

My daughter and wife contacted Eternal City Tours for a day and a half of tour since we were in Rome for a short time and wanted to see as much as possible. The other consideration is that we are Catholic and thought it would be of benefit to have a tour from guides that understood our faith. That said, this tour company would be of benefit for anyone regardless of faith. We had 3 different guides over the one and one half days. They all attended university in Rome and had an incredible knowledge of the area we were exploring with them. I felt as if I were on a walking tour with a university professor who loved what he did and also loved sharing his knowledge with others. I'm convinced that we covered more ground in our day and a half that one could cover in 3 or 4 days. From the Catholic standpoint, it was amazing. I learned much more than just who the artist was, it was a very moving felt more like a Pilgrimage. I would recommend this company to anyone who really wants a quality experience with guides that are educators.

We arrived in Rome on an early Monday morning and Eternal City Tours (we worked with Tom) was more than willing to schedule us for a later start of the day for the Papal Basilica Tour which was a great start to our time in Rome. Some of these basilicas are out of the way, but if you are a Catholic visiting Rome, they are a must-see. Our tour guide was great and made sure that we knew the history of each basilica and gave us enough time to really take in each place. We were in no way rushed. The next day we did the "Rome Was Not Built in a Day Tour" which covered all of the big sites in Rome, plus some added on beautiful churches and cathedrals. Our tour guides were amazing the second day as well. The tours were fantastic as we were able to cover much more than we would have on our own. Plus, the information (historical, art history, etc.) was like taking a college class. Our groups were small (at some points, just us). Finally we felt at home with our guides based on out shared Catholic faith and world views. Definitely recommend this company for touring Rome. Great way to see the city!!!

This was the most fun, thorough and detailed tour my Fiance and i have ever been on and we went on over 6 tours on our recent trip to Italy. It started out with emails to Tom, who responded very quickly and wrote in very clear English. We booked the "Rome wasn't built in a day tour," Isabella was wonderful. She was very engaging for the entire tour of Vatican City, with No dull moments! Her knowledge combined with rumor is what made this surreal experience even better! Then Jan, took us walking through the street of Rome. Not only did he take us to all the major sites, he told us the history as we walked, showed us great sports to get a Cafe, limoncello, panini and much more. It was so much more than history, but we felt as if he were locals. From the Pantheon to the Trevi fountain and everywhere in between, we ended at the Roman Forum and the Colosseum. Jan did an amazing job and I am so happy we were able to walk to city with him as our guide! We highly recommend this private tour through Eternalcitytours, and expecially our guides Isabella and Jan!
