Sts Peter & Paul in Rome Tour Description

Peter and Paul are two of the most influential followers of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. They both would suffer their death in what was then the Capital of the World, Rome. On our 3 hour tour we will visit some of the places where they planted the seeds of evangelization.

The tour begins by taking a short train out to the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls - one of the most beautiful and least visited Basilicas in Rome. Only 15 minutes from the center of Rome it is built over the burial site and body of Saint Paul following his execution in the reign of the roman emperor Nero.

We then return to the center to visit the church of Saint Peter in Chains containing chains that once bound St Peter, brought to Rome by the Christian Empress Eudoxia. Beyond seeing the Chains which once bound Peter in prison in Jerusalem before his miraculous liberation the church also bears the masterful statue of Moses by Michelangelo.

Then hold your breath as we descend beneath a church into the ancient roman Mamertine prison which held most notaries enemies of the roman state, Peter and Paul. Experience the moments before the certain death of two men who went from denying and persecuting Christ to dying for Him.

Finally we finish at the church built over the site where Paul was put under house arrest. Learn why Paul was brought Rome to sit trial before Caesar and why the Apostle of the Gentiles held the privilege of being a Roman Citizen.

Highlights of this tour include:

  • San Paulo Fuori il Muro
  • San Pietro in Vincoli
  • Mamertime Prison (currently under restoration)
  • Santa Maria Aracoeli
  • San Paulo alla Regola

Chose this tour to get a deeper knowledge of Peter and Paul in Rome. James did not disappoint. History, art, architecture and a view of the neighborhoods we walked through from site to site. Highly recommend this tour especially if you are looking to go to St Paul's outside the Walls.

Our family was very lucky to have booked an ancient Rome tour through Eternal city, and had James as our tour guide. I've booked a lot of tours throughout our travelling across South America and Central America, Asia and Europe. Never have we come across a tour guide as professional and as knowledgeable as James. He is a living history book of Rome and Italy. His knowledge is vast and at the same time, James kept his stories interesting and funny for my 17 y/o, my 13 y/o and my 21 y/o nephew. My kids are still talking and laughing at the stories that James told us during our tour. I wished that we had retained Eternal City and James for my Vatocan tour the previous day. I highly recommend James and Eternal City tour. please feel free to ask me any questions regarding James or Eternal City tour.

"Must Join Tour Operator!"

We spent a week in Rome with 3 different tour operators/companies and must say that Eternal City Tours is THE BEST. We wanted to join The Passion of Christ tour but there was no tour available on the date we wanted to do it on Viator so we contacted Eternal City directly and they had arranged a private tour for us on our selected date for the same price. We also joined The St. Peter and St. Paul walking tour which not many tour operators offer. Our guides Blitch and Paul were both very nice, knowledgeable and explained clearly. Those two tours are really worth doing as Eternal City would bring you to the non-typical sites. As a non-Catholic/Christian, we have found both tours very interesting on both historical and architectural perspectives and would be more so if people go to Rome for pilgrimage. Highly recommend Eternal City Tours to anyone

By far this was one of my favorite tours. James was absolutely amazing and we really appreciated the extra time that he took to answer our questions. He also gave us a quick lesson on the best places for shopping and dining. He is extremely knowledgeable and pleasant to be around. The tour itself was breathtaking to say the least. The churches were breathtaking and it gave us a better understanding of what we had been taught in church. To be able to have a visual image of what you had only read previously was such a blessing. I highly encourage everyone to take this tour and request James as he was awesome!
